Another Juvenile Offender at Risk of Execution


Mohammad-Hassan Rezaee,
date of birth ,
is at risk of execution for a murder he allegedly committed at the age of 17.
He is currently detained at the Rasht prison and his Qisis (Islamic retribution)
verdict has been upheld.

HRA- The children’s rights unit of HRA reports that Rezaee
is accused of stabbing Mahyar Alizadeh to death during a fight that involved several people.
His codefendant, who has not been named, has also been found guilty and sentenced to death.

Article 37(a) of the Convention on the Rights of the Child clearly states: “No child shall be subjected to torture or other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. Neither capital punishment nor life imprisonment without possibility of release shall be imposed for offences committed by persons below eighteen years of age”.

Iran remains the world record holder in juvenile executions.
